Hello friends! I have a fresh new poem to share with you! I was inspired a little bit by George Herbert's poetry in this one. I love how God is the subject of every one of His poems. It's easy for me to write about myself, what I'm struggling with and what I've accomplished, but I wasn't content with that today. I hope this poem glorifies God and turns your eyes back to Him. I know it does that for me. Let's praise the Lord together!

A Psalm of Praise

The heart is a star,
Your word the moon.
I once felt the burden
Of being moon too.

But you took it back,
The crown I wore.
You set me down,
A human restored.

The heart is a light
I held so close,
I begged for another,
You handed me a rose.

It caught my breath
And captured my heart.
But beauty is fleeting
And it fell apart

The heart is the bread
A breath that sustains.
But You broke it down,
Only fasting remains

I looked for Your life
So I wouldn’t die,
I thirsted for You
But I thirsted for lies.

I didn’t want you,
Your truth or Your words,
I wanted an easy escape,
Not shepherding herds.

I wanted a heart
That didn’t need You,
I wanted the stars
And the moon without You.

But You brought me down
From my idol the sky,
You opened my belly
You opened my eyes.

You are my bread
Not the weak, fickle heart,
You are my light,
My moon in the dark.

Now I will praise
Your name O so great.
You severed my ties
To my sinful state.

Your face is a blessing
I look for Your truth,
Your heart is captivating
I long to be with You.

My soul will thirst
For Your bread alone,
My soul will cry out
Like the rocks and stones.

Forever my heart
Is tethered to Yours,
Help me remember
On rocky shores.

That You saved me
From what I barely knew,
And now I rejoice
With eyes that are on you.
